Three observations at halftime of today’s game between the Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium. The Colts lead 13-3:

1. In another indication of what happens to a 2-12 team, the Chiefs dominated the first period and yet trailed 7-3 when it was over. They had a wide edge in first downs, yardage and anything meaningful except points. The Chiefs continually gouged the Colts with the running game. But a Jamaal Charles fumble late in the half killed an excellent scoring chance.2. Sometimes it looks like the Chiefs don’t even work on the passing game in practice. One such example came on the 32-yard pass that Darius Butler returned for the game’s only touchdown. Dexter McCluster broke one way, Brady Quinn threw it the other.3. Playing without two of their top receivers in Dwayne Bowe and Tony Moeaki, the Chiefs are trying to feature Jon Baldwin in the passing game. Baldwin had a 57-yard catch and run that set up the Chiefs’ only score but otherwise was having trouble getting open. That long gain was his only catch. Devon Wylie and Jamar Newsome also made big plays for the Chiefs but they still managed just three points.
