Eagle snatches baby

Calling all eagle-eyed readers: Is this video real or fake?

After the Internet spent an entire day gasping at a video of an eagle snatching a baby from a Canadian park, video geeks and nature experts finally cried fake!"Typical 'magic trick'...note that the camera is pointing at the ground while the photographer is running. If the eagle were trained to strike a doll...someone could easily have run in and replaced the doll with the toddler and then run back out of the frame," said one commenter."Clearly fake. Look at the shadow beneath the eagle as it approaches, then 'takes off with the baby.' There is no shadow of the baby as the eagle flies away," said another. Then there's this observation from bird expert Kenn Kaufman: "A golden eagle tries to snatch a baby in Montreal,' and the video goes viral. But it's faked. Golden Eagle is a scarce visitor in the Montreal area, but the bird in the video is not a Golden Eagle, nor anything else that occurs in the wild in North America."This was clearly a setup: using a falconer's bird, and probably a fake toddler for the distant scene. With all the ignorance about nature that's out there already, the last thing we need is this kind of stupid garbage."So, we ask: Is this video real or stupid garbage?| Lisa Gutierrez
