He's already secured the No.1 spot with his debut single Impossible.

But it looks like X Factor winner James Arthur may also hold on to the top spot for Christmas with his track continuing to outsells his rivals.

However, it could be a close race with the reality star shifting just 3,000 more copies than the Justice Collective.

James's cover of the Shontelle song has shifted 76,000 copies this week so far, while Justice Collective's He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother only went on sale on Monday.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said the race for this year's Christmas No.1 was 'exceptionally tight'.

Last week, James's debut track sold over 490,000 copies, becoming the fastest selling single of 2012.

Proceeds of James's track are going to Together For Short Lives, while The Justice Collective is a tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough football disaster.

The Justice Collective features an all-star cast, including Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Melanie C, Gerry Marsden, Shane MacGowan and Beverley Knight.

Gennaro Castaldo of retailer HMV said: 'The Justice Collective has the momentum that comes with a new release, and clearly a lot of people are passionate about its message, but James Arthur's really strong showing last week has probably surprised a few people, and with the Sunday he also has the benefit of an extra day's sales.

'For the moment the advantage is with James to remain at the top for a second week, but if the campaign behind Justice Collective keeps growing, as we think it will, He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother still has a good chance of making it. It's going to be close-run thing.'

Bookmakers William Hill admitted the Justice Collective were originally favourite to secure the Christmas top spot, but have now changed James's odds following the news of his sales.

James's odds have moved from 11/2 to 2/1, while the Justice Collective remain favourite at 4/11.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: 'We thought that the Justice Collective would have a considerable lead at this stage in proceedings, but it would seem that James Arthur really does have the X-Factor.'

The Christmas No.1 will be announced on Sunday afternoon on BBC Radio 1.
